Flat Stanley Goes to the Hospital

Flat Stanley was all ready to go on another trip. This time it was to Portland, Oregon. He would be traveling with Al and Shelee to an educational conference. He was extra excited because he was going by train.
The night before the trip, Al was having trouble using his hand and he was having trouble talking. The next thing Stanley knew, he was in the Emergency Room at the hospital! “Oh no… what has happened to my friend Al?" Stanley wondered. Later, he found out that Al had a stroke. He had a very hard time swallowing, talking and moving his right hand and leg.
Stanley learned about physical therapy. These are a special type of doctor that helped his friend Al learn to walk again. After two days he could stand and today he is walking with help. Maybe he can do stairs soon. Here is one of his therapists: FlatStanley1.JPG
Al could not eat and drink very well so they gave him something called IV. That put special liquid into his arms so that he would be strong. Here is the IV machine.FlatStanley5.JPG
Al had a bad cough before he had his stroke so we had to wear masks to keep from catching his cold. Also, we had to "gel up" with magic soap that works without water. FlatStanley2.JPGFlatStanley3.JPG
When Al got a little stronger, he was sent to a Stroke School where he gets to work 4 hours every day to learn to speak, walk and use his arms. I hope he does good there too. I had to leave him to return home to Marysville.

I wonder what other adventures my class is having.
